Although I’d argue a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde, Amsterdam has a vibrancy that attracts millions of tourists every year. It’s difficult to simplify such an iconic city without losing a proportion of its character and appeal but Matthias Wentink does a great job with his set of clean-cut Amsterdam icons.
My only complaint is that there is no bicycle icon! *Recalling tour guide quotes* – ‘Amsterdam has a population of around 800,000 and over 600,000 bikes’. Maybe Matthias is just subtlety trying to tell us to drop that mild stereotype. Still beautifully done. It’s a testament to Matthias’ work that I recognised most of the buildings without reading the descriptions. The others were purely because I haven’t visited them.
