Dismaland – The Dystopian Theme Park

What happens when you cross a derelict water park with Banksy? Dismaland. It’s a beauty. Well maybe not but it definitely packs a punch which is beautiful in it’s own right.

The event has all the traditional Banksy hallmarks. A shroud of secrecy (apparently the event area was plastered in notices designating it as filming location for a movie titled Gray Fox) and lets not forget the general themes of apocalypse, anti-consumerism, and anti-corporate messages. There is one major deviation though: the emphasis of Dismaland is on other artists’ work instead of Banksy himself.

Dismal delights include artworks by no less than 50 artists from around the world including Damien Hirst, Bill Barminski, Caitlin Cherry, Polly Morgan, Josh Keyes, Mike Ross, David Shrigley, and Bästa. Dismal delights include a ruined Disney castle, a poor lady being swarmed by seagulls, a giant sandcastle, it’s very own killer whale spectacle – eat your heart of sea world. No please do.

This is certainly worth a trip out. Quite possibly the only theme park where bad weather would add to the experience. Where? Weston-super-Mare, UK. When? Now (20/08/15), for around 5 weeks.
