The second edition of the spectacular Ghent Light Festival held in Belgium displayed quite a few interesting projects. The theme of this year was happiness and music and one of the focal points of the festival was this amazing 28 meters high Cathedral Art Installation made from 55,000 LED Lights.

London-based artist Mark Powell draws incredible portraits on the backs of envelopes using only a ballpoint pen (referred to ‘biro pens’ in England).
Made in China is a recent piece by artist Joe Black depicting a portrait of Chinese soldier by photographer Robert Capa that appeared on the cover of LIFE magazine in 1938.
Guy Laramée is a true post-digital renaissance artist. Being an interdisciplinary artist found his way through such varied and numerous disciplines as a stage writer, director, composer, a fabricator of musical instruments, a singer, sculptor, painter and writer. Focusing on his sculptural works there are two series of carved books art – Biblios and The Great Wall.
The Ring installation by Arnaud Lapierre in Place Vendôme in Paris, France plays with the context of this urban space through reflections, light and the interaction of passers-by. The piece was created for the FIAC 2011 Conference and sponsored by Audi. It is an aggregation of offset mirrored blocks stacked to form a cylinder.

For a fine arts project at his university, Joel Brochu was tasked with using the pointillism technique, invented by post-Impressionist painter Georges Seurat, where small dots of pure color are repeatedly applied to a canvas until it forms an image. The original project called on him to recreate a piece of furniture. Using 22 different shades of paint to form a chair, he completed the task.

“Dream Big” was a year-long project in which Pete created a mosaic of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. using 4,242 Rubik’s Cubes.

Artist Kristiina Lahde created this towering paper sculpture using delicately folded phone books. Aptly entitled Hive, the piece was on exhibition at the Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens in Ontario earlier this summer.

Estonian designer Pavel Sidorenko has created ‘Cities’, a collection of 15 wall clocks depicting different iconic locations for his ‘Re vinyl’ series.
